The following was posted on BOSTON's official Facebook page:

BOSTON has always tried to be a positive force in a very messed up world, and it has been gratifying to see the number of fans who have responded to that commitment.

If you care about global warming, Latino kids torn from their parents by the US government, racial inequality and injustice, corruption, the breakdown of human decency, moronic federal Covid response, or if you just miss the America you once knew, then you need to vote NOW! Don’t wait until Nov 3rd; don’t trust your ballot to our sabotaged postal service. Find a drop box that is not a trick decoy box, or go in person (wearing your PPE) to an early voting site in your state, and vote or hand deliver your ballot to a trustworthy official.

Numerous web sites will give you information for your state to help you successfully cast your ballot in spite of Republican efforts to suppress your right to vote. There are several states in which this has already become a shocking problem, and this is not an election where we can afford to have votes thrown in a trash can by people who want to stay in power by any means. Time is almost up. Find a way to make your vote count, it has never been more important.

Tom Scholz

The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) has revealed the latest entrants into the TECnology Hall of Fame (TECHOF), and Tom Scholz' Scholz Research & Development Rockman is one of them.

From the NAMM press release:

1982 Scholz Research & Development Rockman (Tom Scholz)

Long before the term “project studio” was coined, Tom Scholz (founder of the band Boston) built a basement studio to record his own music, including his band’s debut album. An engineer with a master’s degree from MIT, he created much of his own gear, including what was to become the Scholz Rockman, a pocket-sized box that offered compression, distortion, stereo chorus and delay effects for guitar — effectively becoming a complete studio or pedalboard in a miniature package.

Scholz founded Scholz Research & Development to manufacture and market his inventions, including the Power Soak amplifier attenuator, which allowed the recording of amps at lower volumes, along with the popular Rockman, X100, Soloist, Guitar Ace, and Bass Ace. With the Rockman’s headphone amp output, the unit could smoothly function as a direct box, providing players with a great sound that was consistent and simple to achieve — laying down the foundation for a revolution in the way guitarists make music, both live and in the studio.

The series is expected to debut on PBS in October 2019, with releases later on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

June 1 marks a milestone for this site - the twentieth anniversary of its launch.

It all started in mid-May of 1999. After my first year of college, I decided I wanted to create a Boston fan site. At that time, I decided to give myself a deadline of two weeks to complete it. On June 1, I launched Third Stage: A New World on the free webhosting service Webjump. The site was later moved to Batcave - another free webhost. In 2001. After getting tired of having a site plastered with ads from the webhost, along with limitations they placed on free hosting accounts, I decided to start putting money into the site and registered the domain name thirdstage.ca and moved the site to a paid hosting service. At that time, I decided to rebrand the site from Third Stage: A New World, to simply thirdstage.ca.

If you've been visiting this site long enough, you may recall that for a while, I actually closed up the site. It was 2003, and it was getting harder for me to give the site the attention I thought it deserved. So instead of letting the site languish, I made the hard choice to close it up. Then in 2005, during a time where I had a lot of time to spare, I decided to relaunch the site.

The site underwent a number of redesigns over the years. In 2007, I embarked on a number of changes for the site, starting with a new webhost. in March of 2007, I started the process of moving the site to a new webhost. It was during this time the news of Brad Delp's passing came about. On June 1, 2007, I released a major rebuild of the site. This was a particularly big change as I moved the site to a content management system. This meant I had to manually recreate all the content from the existing site one page/article at a time. The site changed again in November of 2009 after upgrading the CMS this site runs on. It remained largely unchanged until recently.

The 20th Anniversary Relaunch includes some major improvements:

Gary Pihl's band Alliance has a new album coming out. Fire and Grace is being released on Escape Music on May 24, 2019. The album will feature 12 tracks, with a thirteenth bonus track for the first pressing of the album.

BOSTON vocalist Tommy DeCarlo's band DECARLO has signed a record deal.

Frontiers Music Srl -- the same label that BOSTON released their 2013 album Life, Love & Hope on, has signed DECARLO to their label. "I’m extremely proud to be recognized by Frontiers and offered my very first recording contract! Getting to work with such a powerhouse label, that has signed some of the top bands from my era, is an accomplishment!” Says Tommy. "I’ve had a lot of blessings in my life (getting married to my wonderful wife of thirty years, having two beautiful children, having performed with a legendary rock and roll band, being a grandfather and last but not least having the opportunity to perform alongside my son Tommy Jr. in our band DECARLO. Through all of those blessings songwriting has also played a big part in my life. I’ve always written for myself, for my own enjoyment, it was something I did simply to pass the time never thinking anything would ever come of it…but it has! Frontiers has given me the opportunity to take my music to the next level. The world will finally get to hear the music of Tommy DeCarlo!"

DECARLO's lineup also includes Tommy's son, Tommy DeCarlo Jr. on guitar, Dan Hitz on drums and Brett Nelson on bass.

DECARLO's first album is expected around the middle of 2019 and is to include 10 songs.

Frontiers Music Srl is a record label based in Italy and has a number of well-known artists on their label, including Journey, REO Speedwagon, Chicago, Def Leppard, Sammy Hagar, Yes and Stryper.

It is with great sadness to report that former Boston drummer Sib Hashian has died.

Sib was performing on stage Wednesday night on the Legends of Rock Cruise when he collapsed. Medics on board the ship attempted to recuscitate him using CPR and a defibrillator, however were unable to revive him.

Sib, who was born John Thomas Hashian, joined Boston in 1975 replacing original drummer Jim Masdea. Sib played drums on the first two Boston albums. He also performed on Barry Goudreau's 1980 solo album prior to his departure from the band. Sib joined Barry many years later as a member of the band Ernie and the Automatics. Sib was taking part in the Legends of Rock Cruise, along with various musicians, including Lou Gramm, John Elefante, as well as Barry Goudreau and Ernie and the Automatics bandmate Michael Antunes. The cruise began March 18 for a one-week voyage, making stops in St. Maarten, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas.

No funeral arrangements have been announced at this time.

Boston was featured on this week's episode of South Park (season 20, episode 2). They showed a sequence starting with one of the characters pulling out the debut album (on vinyl), putting it in a record player, then proceeded to troll the internet.

It ended with a shot of the band performing.

The following message was posted to Facebook by Tom Scholz:

I want to thank everyone for making our 40th Anniversary Tour the best BOSTON tour ever! Our enthusiastic fans who filled so many sold-out venues to cheers us on, the band members for their dedicated efforts to perform at their peak for every show, and our amazing crew who worked tirelessly every day to bring our production to such a wide variety of venues, often under extreme conditions. In 40 years of playing BOSTON music for our fans, this was the most amazing live experience I've ever had with the BOSTON family and our fans.

I know I speak for everyone in the band and crew when I say there is nothing more exciting and elevating than hearing the crowd come to life when we open the show with those first songs - and nothing so fulfilling as the respect and appreciation from our audience at the end of the night. I've said it many times and will say it again; BOSTON audiences are the best rock audiences ever.

The two hour show represented the culmination of enormous effort and sacrifice on so many people's part. It was the end result of 6 months of exhausting work, seemingly impossible obstacles, and unforeseeable challenges - and that was all before we stepped on to a stage for the first time this spring! But it was worth it for so many reasons. Not only did hundreds of thousands of people have a great time escaping everyday life for an evening with BOSTON, we collectively have helped to make the world a little bit better place. In addition to everyone having a great time, the proceeds enable the continuation of yearly charitable contributions, plus we have raised $164,655.00 to be donated to our specific charitable organization beneficiary for this tour, The Humane League.

In past tours we have raised funds for specific charities as diverse as The National Hospice Organization, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, and Shriners Hospital for Children - all organizations working to reduce suffering. This year's organization, The Humane League, was chosen because of the immense importance of their message, not only because they are committed to ending extraordinary needless suffering, but also because the fate of the world as we know it quite probably hangs in the balance. If global warming, water pollution, food born disease, world hunger, your own health, or most importantly the horrifying treatment of animals that goes on behind closed doors is of any importance to you, then I urge you to visit humaneleague.com or one of the many other organizations we support (listed on bandboston.com). We can all do so much simply by the things we decide NOT to do!

I am already getting excited about next year's shows, but for now I have to clean up the workroom where the lightning bolts were born (it used to be my garage), do some serious weed maintenance around my house, and find my skates in the rubble that was once my workshop. Hope to see you all again in 2017!

Walk On,
Tom Scholz

BOSTON has announced the cancellation of three shows scheduled in North Carolina for May. The following is a statement from Tom Scholz:

While the enjoyment of our fans is our central concern, and we have been looking forward to celebrating forty years of history performing for our listeners in North Carolina with spectacular live shows this spring, human rights are more important. It is with deep regret, that I must announce the cancellation of our upcoming shows on May 4, 5 & 6 in Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh in order to raise awareness, and protest in the strongest terms, the recent passage of HB2, the so called “North Carolina bathroom law."

HB2 has the appearance of an oppressive discriminatory law against a small minority, who already have to deal with a narrow-minded world regarding issues beyond their control which they did nothing to bring upon themselves. Other aspects of the new law arguably encourage bigotry. With thousands of fans in attendance at our shows, it is likely that some members of our audience and/or their loved ones are affected on a daily basis by this ugly expression of intolerance.

My sincere apologies to our fans who have already made arrangements to attend these shows. The removal of the shows from our schedule is a major disappointment. It has always been my wish to inspire people with BOSTON's music. Hopefully the sacrifices we are all making here will inspire people to do the right thing in the future. We look forward to the day that the state government of North Carolina will come to its senses and treat ALL individuals with equal freedom in their pursuit of happiness here in the United States.

Citi Performing Arts Center and MSG Entertainment announced today that due to overwhelming demand, legendary American rock band, BOSTON, has added a second show at the Wang Theatre on Monday, August 15. The previously announced show on Sunday, August 14 is sold out. These will be the first BOSTON concerts in decades in their namesake city. Tickets for the newly added August 15 show are on sale now.

BOSTON founder, chief songwriter and producer Tom Scholz said, "We are thrilled to be adding a second show for the finale of our 40th Anniversary Tour here in the city of Boston!  We're working to make these the most exciting BOSTON shows our fans here have ever seen.  What a great way to end our 2016 tour,"

The 40th anniversary BOSTON tour promises to be a celebration honoring the group's loyal fans, where they can expect to hear all the classic songs they have grown to love. Many of them have supported BOSTON since 1976 when their debut album, Boston, first hit the airwaves and took rock radio by storm, so it's not surprising to see concert audiences that span generations. Always a huge crowd pleaser with their high-energy stage shows, out-of-this-world sound, and remarkable musicianship and singing, BOSTON prides itself on performing a totally live show without the use of pre-recorded music or technical enhancements, delivering the extraordinary sound that is faithful to their studio recordings.  Tom Scholz also promises some amazing new electrifying visuals that will surprise and delight BOSTON's fans.

"I'm very excited to bring BOSTON back to Boston," said Tom Scholz.  "Music broadcast from Boston got me interested in rock when I was in high school living in Toledo, Ohio.  Later, studying and working in this city taught me everything I needed to know to create BOSTON's sound in my studio.  Our home town fans have always been great, and I could think of no better way to end our 40th Anniversary Tour than back here in Boston where it all started."

With over 17 million copies sold, Boston generated hits such as "More Than a Feeling," "Peace of Mind," and "Smokin'," rock radio staples that are still in heavy rotation today. Their second album, Don't Look Back, was another chart-topper that cemented their place in rock history, followed by Third Stage, which hit #1 on the charts fueled by the top single of 1986, "Amanda." With over 31 million albums sold to date, BOSTON has stood the test of time.

As Tom Scholz wrote in the rock anthem on the BOSTON album Don’t Look Back, "It’s a Party, Party, Party!" Indeed, the 40th anniversary BOSTON tour promises to be a celebration honoring the group’s loyal fans. Many of them have supported BOSTON since 1976 when the debut album, Boston first hit the airwaves and took rock radio by storm, so it’s not surprising to see concert audiences that span generations.

The concerts kick off on Friday, April 29th in Hollywood, FL at the Hard Rock Live and run through the end of August.

Always a huge crowd pleaser with their high-energy stage show, out-of-this-world sound, and remarkable musicianship and singing, BOSTON prides itself on performing a totally live show without the use of prerecorded music or technical enhancements, delivering the extraordinary sound that is faithful to their studio recordings.

BOSTON became an iconic classic rock fixture when they joined the music scene with their self-titled album in 1976. With over 17 million copies sold, Boston generated hits such as "More Than a Feeling," "Peace of Mind," and "Smokin'," rock radio staples that are still in heavy rotation today. Their second album, Don't Look Back was another chart-topper that confirmed their place in rock history, followed by Third Stage, which hit #1 on the charts, with the top single of 1986, "Amanda." With over 31 million albums sold to date, BOSTON has stood the test of time.

Fans can expect to hear all the classic songs they have grown to love, and will be treated to wild Hammond organ work, soaring harmony guitars, and exceptional vocal arrangements, as well as BOSTON’s unique visual stage presentation and plenty of extra-terrestrial sounds heard nowhere else on earth.

Forty years ago today, February 1st 1976, the amazing story of the iconic band BOSTON officially began when Tom Scholz and Brad Delp signed their recording contract with Epic Records. Their first album, Boston, would quickly become the best selling debut album in history, and its founder Tom Scholz would become recognized for his charitable work, promotion of higher education, and technical innovation.

BOSTON recordings are known for their sonic purity and massive "cathedral of sound" (Cameron Crowe, Rolling Stone), thanks to Scholz' novel arranging, production, and instrumental performances, and Delp's artfully layered vocals.

Back in 1976 no one could have guessed that two unknown writer/performers were about to create albums that would eventually sell over 30 million copies. The phenomenon surprised Scholz as well as the staff of Epic Records, at a time when the industry was caught up in the 70s disco bubble. However, the popular description of the debut album as an overnight success, a "Cinderella story," could not have been farther from the truth.
